17 And it came to pass that the Lord began to bless them, insomuch that they brought many to the knowledge of the truth; yea, they did convince many of their sins, and of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.
The Lord Began to Bless them- why the alleged wait?
The Lord began to bless them with success. Am I reading more into this verse than I should, when I ask this question?
Did the Lord purposely wait until after their trials to bless them with success among the Lamanites? And if so, why? Was it part of their refining process? Or was it just how it worked out chronologically? Because I have to say, that is an interesting statement. “The Lord began to bless them....”. Was he not blessing them all along? How could he have begun to do something if he was doing it all along? Why not say, “They began to have success in bringing many to a knowledge of the truth”?
We know the Lord blessed them and watched over them and provided freedom from prison, etc. But why did the Lord allegedly wait to bless them with success in bringing souls unto Christ? Did he want to further refine and sharpen his instruments? Was that necessary? We know they all had willing hearts and minds and charity. But did they need more?
I do not know.
Perhaps the Lord needed razors instead of sharp knives to cut through the false traditions of the Lamanites.
