8 And the man said unto him: We do not believe that thou knowest any such thing. We do not believe in these foolish traditions. We do not believe that thou knowest of things to come, neither do we believe that thy fathers and also that our fathers did know concerning the things which they spake, of that which is to come.
Now this is another interesting, hypocritical, illogical and inconsistent comment made by this man. He says he does not believe that Aamon knows the things that he believes and teaches, and does not believe that Ammon can know of the future, or in other words things to come, as if no one can know the future. Yet he believes he knows the truth in HIS beliefs, and knows the future of his people who pray every day to give thanks that they will be saved while everybody else is consigned to hell.
How often do we hear this argument today, when we testify that we know that God lives, Jesus is the Christ, and that the Gospel has been restored? They say, “You can’t know that!” When the truth is you can know that, and even the truth of all things, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Nevertheless, he says he does not believe in any of the Nephite traditions, or in other words any of the true gospel of Jesus Christ. To those people, the Nehors, the Nephites beliefs are foolish traditions. Isn’t that ironic. Because their beliefs were not only foolish traditions, but downright heresy and utterly false.
Twice he said that they didn’t believe anyone could know the future. It seems to me that in essence what this man is saying is that they do not believe in prophecy. And how is that different from the modern religions of our day? It is not different at all. Because according to them God does not speak to men anymore. He has given his word in the Bible and that is all we have. God is mute. Their God is apparently a dead God, no longer able to speak, no longer speaking to prophets as he has since the beginning. And that in spite of the fact that God said in Amos 3:7
“Surely the Lord God will do nothing but he reveals his secret and do the servants the prophets”.
How convenient for Satan to convince people that God no longer speaks to man! Believe that, and you cut yourself off from the mouthpieces of the Lord, the prophets, and from God Himself. Satan uses the same tactics then as he does now in his attempts to deceive and blind the minds of the children of men.
