3 And thus they might go forth and preach the word according to their desires, for the king had been converted unto the Lord, and all his household; therefore he sent his proclamation throughout the land unto his people, that the word of God might have no obstruction, but that it might go forth throughout all the land, that his people might be convinced concerning the wicked traditions of their fathers, and that they might be convinced that they were all brethren, and that they ought not to murder, nor to plunder, nor to steal, nor to commit adultery, nor to commit any manner of wickedness.
The king simply wanted his people to have the joy and happiness he had found. He wanted his people to know the truth that sets them free. Free from the bondage of sin. He wanted them to know they were all brothers and sisters, and to treat each other as such. And so his proclamation was to ensure that the word of God could be preached to every soul, that all might have the same opportunity he had.
He had tasted of the fruit of the tree of life that Lehi and Nephi saw in vision. And it was white above all that is white. And sweet above all that is sweet. And since his family had already embraced it, his heart went out to all people to partake also.
