Alma 24:1

Writer's picture: Brother UreBrother Ure

1 And it came to pass that the Amalekites and the Amulonites and the Lamanites who were in the land of Amulon, and also in the land of Helam, and who were in the land of Jerusalem, and in fine, in all the land round about, who had not been converted and had not taken upon them the name of Anti-Nephi-Lehi, were stirred up by the Amalekites and by the Amulonites to anger against their brethren.

And so Satan gathers his tares to fight against the Lamb of God and His wheat. Why? Why can’t they just leave well enough alone? Because Satan has the power to possess their bodies and make them do his bidding. Because Lucifer and those who follow him can never let well enough alone, because anything that is well or good or brings us closer to God, he and those he controls will fight against. And this is no exception.

Surely the righteousness of the people had sparked the ire of the evil one. Surely he looked for anything to whisper in their ears to cause them to be angry. And surely, so it seems to me, the people of God changing their names from Lamanites to Anti-Nephi-Lehis was probably the easiest way to do it it, because it played upon the pride of the unrepentant Lamanites. Surely they were not only insulted, but enraged that the name they took so much pride in was being discarded, and that for the name of their enemies the Nephites!

What to do? Were these the minority? Majority? Equal in numbers? Apparently it did not matter, as we shall see.
