2 And their hatred became exceedingly sore against them, even insomuch that they began to rebel against their king, insomuch that they would not that he should be their king; therefore, they took up arms against the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.
Rebellion! Civil war! The violent, evil part of society takes up arms against their king and the people of God. It’s not enough to agree to disagree. There are those in society, just like ours, who are under Satan’s influence and control and are filled with hate and anger and simply want to destroy that which is good.
The people were perfectly happy with their king before his conversion. No rebellion. But heaven forbid the people should worship the true and living God, even if it makes their lives better! For surely their temporal lives improved as they increased trade with the Nephites. Everyone prospers when there is free and fair trade. But true to the irrational actions of the evil who refuse to repent and serve and God, there is only one other person left to serve and obey— Lucifer.
That is our choice in life. There are only two. We must choose a side. If we don’t choose to love and serve God and fight on his side, Lucifer will DRAFT us into his army by force! Ultimate their is no neutral ground in mortality. We must choose between good and evil. And refusing to choose God is choosing to serve the Devil. Did not the Savior day “he that is not for me is against me”?
So, we we must choose. That is the entire purpose of this life. To be free to choose between good and evil, our two choices. We can choose to fight against all that is good with Satan and his minions, whether voluntarily or by draft, or we can choose to fight in God’s army and for a righteous cause!
Why would anyone choose slavery over freedom!? And yet we do. For one of two reasons, it seems. We are deceived and tricked by the enemy of our souls. Or, we simply love Satan and sinful living more than God. We love evil and lies and darkness and deception and the carnal things of the world, more than goodness, truth, light, and love and service and sacrifice and that which edifies and uplifts.
Choose ye this day....
