21 Now when the people saw that they were coming against them they went out to meet them, and prostrated themselves before them to the earth, and began to call on the name of the Lord; and thus they were in this attitude when the Lamanites began to fall upon them, and began to slay them with the sword. So how did these humble, faithful people react to the attack? Or perhaps I should say act, because reacting sometimes implies a lack of forethought and agency. When their enemy, hell bent on killing them, approached, what did they do? Ran away? No. Not only did they not run away, they went out to meet them! Unarmed. Completely relying upon the mercy of those the bloodthirsty army. And what did they do when they met them? They prostrated themselves to the ground and began to pour out their souls to God in prayer. I visualize them praying out loud as their enemies fell upon them. Thus it was when the Lamanites fell upon them and began the work of death. And how at first the Lamanites must have rejoiced! For instead of being met with opposition, their enemy laid down on the ground, without any weapons, and did not fight back, but allowed themselves to be killed. In war, what more could you ask for! An enemy that refuses to defend themselves!
