22 And thus without meeting any resistance, they did slay a thousand and five of them; and we know that they are blessed, for they have gone to dwell with their God.
A thousand of the Anti-Nephi-Lehis were killed, massacred, without lifting a finger to defend themselves. And Mormon (I guess this is Mormon speaking) testified that he knows they were saved and now dwell with God. And surely it is so! For they were not only faithful in all things, but they demonstrated the greatest love of all— they gave their life for their friends. No! They gave their lives, out of love, for their enemies! They loved their very enemies so much as to give their lives for them.
If there is a love greater than giving your life for your friends, than surely it is giving your life for and in behalf of your enemies! Is this not what the Savior has done? Did he not die in behalf of those who were responsible for his crucifixion, as well as those who loved him?
How does a mortal being develop that kind of love? It’s beyond my comprehension, and seemingly light years away from me.
