Alma 25: 1

Writer's picture: Brother UreBrother Ure

1 And behold, now it came to pass that those Lamanites were more angry because they had slain their brethren; therefore they swore vengeance upon the Nephites; and they did no more attempt to slay the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi at that time.

Wow. Were they not already angry enough? How much more angry can you be than to kill your own people!

Interesting that their attitude and anger shift seems to parallel Old King Lamoni’s, when he wanted to kill his own son and then when his heart was softened against that, he turned his anger to Ammon!

I suppose the devil doesn’t care who he destroys and hurts, so long as he can hurt someone. Well, truth is he definitely focuses on the people who can do the most good. Either way, we have to always look for silver linings, and the fact that they no longer wanted to kill their fellow countrymen was a blessing to be grateful for! And surely, was it not the Lord who so softened their hearts? For the devil does not soften, he only hardens. It had to be the Lord who softened their hearts towards their brethren the Lamanites who were now called Anti-Lehi-Nephis.  And it was the devil who hardened their hearts even more in anger against their brethren the Nephites.

It seems Satan can do just about anything he wants, if we give him the power to do so....
