Alma 26: 4-5

Writer's picture: Brother UreBrother Ure

4 Behold, thousands of them do rejoice, and have been brought into the fold of God.

5 Behold, the field was ripe, and blessed are ye, for ye did thrust in the sickle, and did reap with your might, yea, all the day long did ye labor; and behold the number of your sheaves! And they shall be gathered into the garners, that they are not wasted.

Thousands of Lamanites brought out of the dark, lifted up out of the pit. ”The field was ripe” apparently was an expression they were familiar with, even though the Savior had not yet come and spoken those words. Apparent some other prophet had been inspired to use the analogy that Ammon draws from.

Importantly, Ammon acknowledges that the harvest did not come without work. Lots of hard work! Every waking hour of the day they labored in order to obtain the harvest. And so it is with us. We cannot expect that we can instantly and without work and trial and tribulations and prayer reap so bountifully. So should we give up on our loved ones? Or continue to minister to them? We must labor while it is day, and all day long, and then after all we can do it is up to those the agency of those individuals and God to provide the increase.
