Alma 26: 8

8 Blessed be the name of our God; let us sing to his praise, yea, let us give thanks to his holy name, for he doth work righteousness forever.

Pure praise.

When we think if praising someone or something, we think to testify and give thanks for their marvelous and wonderful properties. If it’s an item, we are filled with desire to tell as many people about it’s wonderful qualities. And the same is true with people.

It is what motivates people to do and say these things. It stems from gratitude. It stems from being so impressed that we cannot contain ourselves. We cannot hold it in. We feel like we will burst if we do not exalt and praise that person.

That seems to be what happened with Ammon. His gratitude and his complete and utter awe for God and the things he had done for and among them could not be contained, and so they came spewing out in pure worship and praise.

I have felt this in my heart from time to time when the Lord has blessed me so abundantly and in such a miraculous way that every fiber of my being wanted to cry out in thanks and praise, and wherein I was so overcome with his goodness and mercy and wisdom and might that it seemed to want to burst out of me uncontrollably.

I think this is akin to that scripture account of Jesus Triumphant entry.

35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

Jesus disciples of that day were filled with this same degree of gratitude and praise. And it mattered not how crazy or inappropriate it may have appeared to others. They could not constrain themselves, and, as the Savior said, if they had held their tongues the very rocks would have cried out! And do you think this was a metaphor? No, it was not a metaphor! If not literal, Jesus would have been a liar. The rocks literallywould have cried out in praise to the Holy One of Israel if the people had not exalted in praise to their miraculous and powerful and loving and merciful God.

And so it was with Ammon! The only problem is that there are no words sufficient to praise him name sufficiently.
