Alma 27: 20-21

Writer's picture: Brother UreBrother Ure

20 And now it came to pass that Alma conducted his brethren back to the land of Zarahemla; even to his own house. And they went and told the chief judge all the things that had happened unto them in the land of Nephi, among their brethren, the Lamanites.

21 And it came to pass that the chief judge sent a proclamation throughout all the land, desiring the voice of the people concerning the admitting their brethren, who were the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

So interesting! Alma and the sons of Mosiah go back to Zarahemla, to Alma’s house, and told the chief judge the story. He in turn did something fascinating. Instead of using his position of authority to decide what is best and then tell the people what to do, he did what he was SUPPOSED to do a a REPRESENTATIVE of the people. He asked them what they wanted to do.

This is how our free nation has been set up with representatives. People who represent the body politic-  the people.
