Alma 28: 13

Writer's picture: Brother UreBrother Ure

13 And thus we see how great the inequality of man is because of sin and transgression, and the power of the devil, which comes by the cunning plans which he hath devised to ensnare the heart.

So all men are indeed CREATED equal, meaning having equal opportunity to fulfill the measure of our creation. Which in essence means that we all have the opportunity to rise to our own, personal full potential.

So what makes us unequal? Only one thing can make us unequal, and that is ourselves. Only by the foolish and unwise use of our agency do we become unequal. Unequal in the sense that we are not as favored and as blessed as those are who repent of their sins and transgressions. That is the key  And that is perhaps why, it being the key, it is the only thing that the Savior wants us to preach, which is repentance and faith on his name, baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost by laying on of hands. All other blessings hinge upon faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, repentance, and then if we have the opportunity, baptism and reception of the Holy Ghost.

If we then do those things we will receive equal blessings, even if those blessings are not exactly the same as those around us. We will receive all that we are capable of receiving at that point, or at any given point, in our lives. We are told that we will receive all things as quickly as we are ready to receive them.

And so it is the devil and our willingness to hearken unto his voice that makes us unequal. Not in the eyes of God, but in his ability to bless and reward us for our obedience and faith and trust in him. And then again, not so much in his ability, except his inability to be a liar and break his word. For he cannot lie. And if he tells us that we can only receive certain blessings by obedience to the law upon which those blessings are predicated, then he cannot do it. He will not do it. For then all is lost. And his great love will not allow him to lose all of his child, and all the work for and sacrifice he has made to for bring to pass our immortality and eternal life, which is eternal joy.
